1. Can I donate an instrument to Music Rising?:

Sadly, no though we deeply appreciate the offer. We don’t have the facilities to collect instruments or to check them out and make sure they’re in working order. We decided that since we’re just a handful of folks, we would raise money and awareness and use the funds to purchase new instruments for as many musicians and organizations as we can. We use other organizations to identify people in need and to get them the instruments. We provide the money. And we decided not to spend any of the money we raise on staff or even offices. So, there’s no one to recieve used instruments or repair them for use. On the other hand, our partners at the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (www.mhopus.org) can collect instruments, arrange for repair and donate them to schools in the Gulf Coast region. Please contact them and tell them that Edge and Bob sent you. If this did not answer your question, please feel free to contact us.

2 Can I volunteer to help?:

Unfortunately the answer is again no. Since we don’t have offices, there’s no place for us to put you to work. But we urge you to use your energy and imagination to find creative ways to raise money for the instruments we need to buy and distribute in the Gulf Coast region. And no amount is too small. If you can organize a fundraising event or even just collect from friends, you will be helping us to achieve our goal of ensuring that every musician, school, church and community organization in the Gulf Coast region has the instruments they need to let the music rise once more.

3 How do I make a cash donation?:

If you wish to donate to professional musicians, you can do that by going to our partners at MusiCares. This link will take you directly to their Music Rising donation page. They are processing and arranging all the donations to professional musicians who have lost their instruments and need a replacement to get back on their feet again. We’ve already helped over 1,300 musicians through this partnership – and we still have a waiting list of nearly 1,000 more. So we can use your help with this.

If you wish to donate to a community-based organization, school or church you can do so by emailing us at info@musirising.org and giving us the details of your donation. We’ll get back to you right away with instructions on what to do next. Please be patient with us, we’re just setting up this part of the organization and will have systems in place for direct donation as soon as possible.

4 I am a musician who has lost their instrument(s) and needs a replacement. How do I apply? :

If you are a professional musician, please contact us through our partners at MusiCares and follow the application instructions. They will process the application for you and, if you qualify, will organize getting you the help you need.

5 My school/church/community center/SAPC etc. lost instruments in the storms and flood and is in need of replacements. How do I apply?:

If you are a community-based organization, school or church please click on the button below and send us an email explaining who you are and your specific need. We are only just beginning to service these groups and may not be able to handle all requests immediately. But we will do our best to ramp up this part of our service as quickly as possible.

6 I want to receive updates from Music Rising telling me how things are going in the Gulf Region.:

Please register as we are hoping to start an irregular newsletter fairly soon. We’ll try to post information as we receive it and keep you as informed as we are about the state of things.

7 What else can I do to help the people of this region?:

Call your representatives in Washington and tell them that you, like many people, are dissatisfied with the lack of progress in rehabilitating New Orleans and the Central Gulf. Tell them that you want to see them get more active in ensuring that there is both aid and leadership coming from Washington. Tell them you and your friends expect them to get involved personally.

8 Will The Edge play at my birthday party?:

You never know.

9 I have some original ideas, lyrics, poems, writings or other creative materials to Music Rising for consideration of use or donation for future use. How do I submit them:

While we appreciate your enthusiasm, Music Rising and The Gibson Foundation cannot accept, or be in any way responsible for, any unsolicited materials and thus any received will be returned to the original sender without consideration and with no remarks. Please do not send any creative materials via email or regular mail to Music Rising.

If you have a great idea, we encourage you to use it to generate funds to donate, but we have no staff and no means to support your efforts. Please remember that our mission and our operation are very simple: we raise money to buy replacement instruments.

10 I am part of group or an individual who is interested in personally raising funds through some local or regional fundraising efforts events with proceeds going to Music Rising. How do I go about doing this?:

Music Rising is very thankful for the many people who have offered their support and/or donations to Music Rising. The best way to help those in need is to donate directly to the organization. All funds received go straight to Music Rising efforts. If you are interested in raising funds with an event or program that you are organizing in your city or region you may email info@musicrising.org: with your idea and details. Please make sure to include a brief description of your event/program, the main contact and phone number of the person in charge, the projected amount of you intend to give Music Rising and any advertising or promotional material support plans for the event for approval. Once the Board reviews your request we will advise of any possible participation. If Music Rising is designated as one of your beneficiaries then you must also send an email to info@musicrising.org: once approved and advise the organization of the date you intend to send the donation and the projected amount along with any other pertinent information. Once a proposal is submitted you will receive an answer to your request within 2 weeks.
